SARS is a life-threatening lung condition. SARS-CoV-2 disease or COVID-19 disease is a worldwide pandemic that has become a huge public health concern across the globe. Following the unforeseen 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, healthcare workers are experiencing not just physical but also emotional and mental difficulties, including psychiatric trauma. Outbreaks, specifically pandemic conditions, trigger fear-related behaviors in individuals, and mental health problems are often a possibility.

According to Gross, emotional regulation is defined as "mechanisms by which people regulate their emotions and what they feel or how they express these emotions. Expressive suppression and cognitive reassessment are the most effective strategies for emotional control. Expressive repression of external signals linked to one's internal emotional state (like expression) has been associated with PTS and persistent PTSD symptoms.

Cognitive reassessments that include reframing feelings experience or triggers emotions have been linked with a reduction in self-reported PTS symptoms to reduce their effects. On the other hand, when investigating the association between expressive inhibition/cognitive reappraisal and PTS effects, recent research did not take the degree of trauma experience into account.

There are a variety of reasons that can be linked to the increased incidence of anxiety and depression among doctors and general practitioners in Pakistan and other developing countries. Doctors and other health professionals are honored as heroes of this pandemic and the backbone of every healthcare system; thus, it is important that their emotional and physical well-being be handled so that they can fulfill their roles to the best of their ability. In a timely fashion, according to minimal evidence, one-third of doctors in Pakistan suffered from anxiety and depression prior to the pandemic.

During epidemics, both contextual and human variables may affect the probability of adverse psychological reactions. Fears of contracting COVID-19 and placing family members at risk were common causes for mental health problems. Restricted capital, the risk of influenza transmission, longer hours of duty, sleep disturbance, and work-life balance with elevated workload are all considerations to weigh. However, age, ethnicity, and occupation are the most significant individual variables associated with psychological distress.

Appropriate measures for health care workers is a crucial step in national emergency public health response to fighting the outbreaks. Adapted psychological interventions such as online counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy by trained psychologists to support mental health of physicians is recommended. Moreover, assessing the effectiveness of such interventions on psychological wellbeing of frontline health workers during this pandemic would be worthwhile.
