ISLAMABAD: PMLN Secretary Information Marriyum Aurangzeb has demanded that the year 2022 should be declared the year of Population Management.

In a statement Marriyum said the exponential increase in population was one of the major causes of the challenges faced by the country. She said the rapid rise in population and the rapid decline in resources and income was a dangerous combo that had created a worrisome and alarming situation for Pakistan. 

The former Information Minister said the GDP is negligible in relevance with the population rise which was rendering the net National growth to virtually zero. Which is why, she said, everyone needed to rise above their political differences to focus on this grave problem. This merits effective policy making through consensus in the year 2022 which should be declared as the year of population management. 

Marriyum said Parliamentarians and tge nation needs to be sensitised about food insecurity, job insecurity, healthcare and other challenges associated with population explosion.

She said Pakistan was the fifth most populous country of the world which was why this issue needed to be mainstreamed all the way down to the local government level. There wa a dire need of every avenue including the Parliament, government, political parties, civil society, religious leadership and the media to highlight and focus on this important issue, she concluded.
